What inspired this painting?
Rock strata
Textured acrylic paintings are very appealing to me, and such fun to create. I began by using paint and texture paste to create different shapes. Once dry the colours could be modified with inks. Tiny stones created further texture, while suggesting different rock types.
Finally I added a small cast ammonite, which gave focus to the piece and hinted at fossils which might be contained in the rock strata.
Size and materials
Acrylic ink, paint and paste on canvas, with stones and cast ammonite.
Size: 20 x 20cm (8 x 8 inches)
Panel is 38mm deep.
