What inspired me?
Chrysocolla and cuprite cabochons.
Who'd have thought these colours would occur together naturally? The turquoise comes from the chrysocolla; the red from cuprite. Stones may be mottled, or have large patches of a single colour, each with veins, squiggles or spots running through. On this piece I've kept the pattern simple, focusing on the dramatic division between the colours.
This rock is found in the Sonora Desert, Mexico. The idea of a red sky with a greenish landscape gives this rock its alternate names: Sonora Sunrise and Sonora Sunset. My take is that it's a turquoise sky above scorched earth. Either way, it perfectly captures the intense colours of Mexico.
