What inspired me?
Ammonite fossils and coastal pools.
Rockpooling is one of my favourite ways to spend an afternoon. Colours, texture, patterns, reflections. With the smell of the sea and the taste of salt on your lips, it's a feast for the senses.
I wanted to convey the sense of looking down into a pool, dipping a net, and making a connection with sand, rock structure, watery depths, fossils, and cloud reflections.
The background is built from multiple layers of paint. Glazing one layer over another allows the underlying layer to show through, partially revealing colours and patterns.
Different consistancies of paint can be spread, dripped, poured, sponged, stencilled and spattered, creating a complex surface that forms a backdrop for eroded fossil patterns..
