Shard
What inspired this painting?
Shards of Cherry Creek Jasper.
Shard is inspired by Cherry Creek Jasper (also known as Red Creek Jasper), a stone that was first discovered in China in 2010.
There is much variety to be found in these stones. Each piece is
an apparently random arrangement of colour and line, that nevertheless conforms to a definite structure and colour palette.
Muted colours, that gradually morph from one to another. Warm reds and yellows to cool blues and greens. The gentlest of curves.Fuzzy lines. None of the brashness that red, orange and yellow could embody, but still bright enough to make a statement. Strength in subtlety.
Multiple layers of paint allow colours to peek through each other. Liquid paint drips, spreads and blurs. Repeating colours create harmony amid the chaos.
