Slivers of Silver
What inspired me?
A piece of Cryptomelane
Layers and contrasts of texture inspired this mini-sculpture. Mica flakes catch the light, adding sparkle and emphasizing the rough texture of the columns versus the smooth background panel.
Last year I was fortunate to visit the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The minerals hall was a treature trove, heaven for anyone who loves structure, pattern and texture.
Among the thousands of specimens on display, I found a piece of Cryptomelane. Layers of rough hewn silvery coloumns created a play of light and shadows.
Back in my studio, I used Mica Flake Gel and marble dust mixed with Gloss Medium to mimic the textures
